Within the Stone - Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 59

Ring design & photo copyright Renathe Schneider

To illustrate this week's text, I have borrowed an image from the Etsy shop of a Swedish jewellery designer, Renathe Schneider, Design Renathe Schneider - Resin jewelry. Renathe Schneider's beautiful ring has a real mosquito captured in resin.

Welcome to Saturday Centus Week 59!
Saturday Centus is Mrs. Jenny Matlock's writing theme where participants are asked to write a text - a story or poem - with a limit of 100 words plus a written prompt.

This week's prompt, suggested by Jeff

at Tennessee Mudbug, is: ...within the stone...

This is my text:
------
Removing her glasses, she held the thin piece of amber close to her myopic eyes, and let the light from the window reveal what was trapped within the stone, "Is this a mosquito?"
"Yes", replied the bearded man wearing a white lab coat. "We found several excellent specimens at the dig site. This particular piece of amber was found very near the fossilised remains of that archaeopteryx*."
"What are you going to do with the misquito? You're not thinking about trying to extract DNA from it, are you?"
He smiled a sly smile, "Of course not. Why would I want to do that?"

------

Wordcount according to WordCalc: 100

Best wishes,
Anna

P.S.
This is my nod to the film Jurastic Park. Thanks Jeff! I love your prompt! I wrote this in one sweep and stopped at exactly 100 words, without having to edit that much at all. My SC-text is no masterpiece, but it was fun to write. I haven't read anyone else's text yet, and am guessing that there will be several posts similar to this one.

Bravo! well done. The text is great and I imagine if it were to continue it would every bit as scary as the Jurassic Park story
Have a great day

Good take on the prompt, Anna! Oh, and we have enough mosquitoes in the world, don't we!

Anna, This is a wonderful and unexpected take on Jeff's prompt. You wrote it all down so nicely.

Namaste..........cj

Good one, Anna. I thought of Jurassic Park as I was reading it!

=)

Which means he has some sinister plans for a biochemical weapon.
Intriguing tale you can expand on...wonderfully fresh idea.

Ann - Thanks for your faithful support! You are indeed my most frequent commenter!

Judie - Thanks. But I must confess that it was Renathe's misquito-ring that inspired me to do this connection. So far I have not seen many misquitoes this year, since I've kept myself busy indoors and not been in the woods were I usually meet up with them!

Jeff - Thank you for correcting me. Of course it is about diamonds! And diamonds make it even harder. They are really inbedded in other kinds of stone, aren'r they? Please forgive my ignorance of geology! I must consult you to proofread any story I write that is about stones, geology or mining. I am so glad you liked my text. It means a lot to me that you enjoyed reading it.
I think I must have a few drops of the sceientist in me as well.

Thanks cj! I owe you some back-comments. Thanks for your patience.

Sue - See, I thought there would be someone else who thought of Jurassic Park. Great minds think along similar lines!

Rek - Thank you for your kind words! You have understood that the guy in the white lab coat is a mad scientist!

Hugs to you all!
Anna

Anna. I have always been intriqued with amber...especially after the movie aired.

I still have a few more to read, but so far you're the only one who went in this clever direction!

Really clever and so wonderfully visual.
