Kris in a wheelchair - Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 34

Jenny Matlock

These are Mrs. Matlock's instructions:

Merry Christmas! I decided to go ahead and post a Centus for those that wish to participate this week. I won't get into all the mushy Christmas sentiments here on this post, but know that the postscript to my star post applies to you all. It has been an honor and a priviledge to read your offerings each week. Thank you all for participating. Ahem... Ahem... OK. There was a tiny, emotional moment there but I have now gathered my thoughts and can continue. Welcome to week thirty-four of Saturday Centus. STOP! If you didn't read the end SC's from last week, please take a moment to do so. Just work backwards until you find out where you left off. I feel really bad that the people at the end don't get read. Thanks! Now on to regular SC biz...In case you've forgotten... This is a themed writing meme. You can use UP to 100 words to tell your story. The prompt does not count for your 100 words AND it must be left intact in the body of your story. As a special Christmas gift, though, you can use illustrations this week if you are so inclined. Your story can be fact or fiction, just keep it PG, please! You have the entire week to link your work to the meme and you can link more than one story if you like. Please display link button or just a hyper-link back to Saturday Centus. Be careful to link your SC URL to the Linky and not just link to your main blog. I would suggest that since these are so short, if you can't think of a title just use your blog name as the title in the Linky. Try to visit each one because there are some amazing writers participating in this meme. Since the links are so short they are also a fun and quick read. Please e-mail me directly with ???'s or ask your question in a comment and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. This week the prompt is: "The white-bearded fat man rolled through the church doors..." Link anytime between now and next Saturday morning.

Here is my SC-text:

Denny and Charlene were meeting at church hiding their romance from people at work.

"How's decorating?" whispered Charlene taking a program.

"Okay, except we're short-handed since Kris fell from the ceiling." They seated themselves in one of the pews toward the rear.

"Oh dear. You mean that old guy? What exactly does he do?"

"Right now, with two broken legs, he's not doing much. But he's quite well-known. Each year, he..." Denny was interrupted. The white-bearded fat man rolled through the church doors as every parishioner turned around to see him.

"Oh my, it's Santa Claus!" gasped Charlene.

"Or Kris Kringle! We're at 34th Street, remember?"

Word count according to WordCalc: 98

To find out more about the 1947 movie Miracle on 34th Street please visit Wikipedia's page. Yes, I was inspired by this film.

In case you are wonder who Denny and Charlene are, they are in an earlier Centus. Please click here. I am learning from Tina to make some of my texts connect as part of a larger whole. But I don't know how far I can take this. My next Centus may include totally different characters-

Best wishes,
Anna

I know we're not supposed to have illustrations, but I have scrolled down so far, this won't count will it?

Such a cute story. I also like the reference to 34th street.

Anna. I loved your different interpretation of "rolled". Clever, clever girl!

Happy Belated Birthday!

I had marked the 28th on my Calendar and then realized this morning I never turned that calendar page!

I wore my cherry necklace again at Christmas to the shock of everyone there..."You don't wear jewelry" I heard about 15 times. That necklace is just perfect.

And so was this little gem of a story.

Thank you for linking.

Sending you warm wishes for a 2011 filled with closure, peace, new discoveries and joys.

Hugs from Arizona.

Anna, This is delightful! I think you're the only one who put the old fellow in a wheelchair. Like the others, I I love the reference to 34th Street!

Well done and Happy New Year ...................cj
