I is for 'IGELKOTT' (= Swedish for HEDGEHHOG) The Letter 'I' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

I is for IGELKOTT - [= Swedish for HEDGEHOG] - The Letter 'I' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 [I have already used another word for 'H' and I don't have a better subject than hedgehogs/igelkottar for 'I'.

Hedgehogs are adorable little nocturnal animals with small beady eyes and sharp quills for protection. Hedgehogs' spiny protection resembles that of the unrelated rodent porcupines and monotreme echidnas. But their spines are not poisonous or barbed.

For protection they can even roll themselves into a ball. They are omnivorous, eating chiefly insects and earthworms. European Hedgehogs are not soft or furry, but are still very cute.

Here's a silver charm of a hedgehog from charms4you that I am going to make a pendant and maybe earrings with and sell to like-minded hedgehog-lovers.

Look at these cute hedgehog beads that Heather Powers of the etsy shop, humblebeads makes!

My theme for A to Z is my favourite things that might show up in written stories, poems, paintings or jewellery. This is my list of subjects that I would like to work with.

Best wishes,
Anna

H is for Hand. The Letter 'H' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

H is for Hand. The Letter 'H' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Tuesday, April 9th, 2013.

I don't write much poetry or rhyme. Here is a poem that I first posted for Mrs Denise Nesbitt's ABC-Wednesday, Round 7:

My daughter, Elisabet

Happiness is in your hand,
As a pretty rock found in the sand,
Or sending bubbles to Faerie-land.

Happiness is
children's laughter,
Tiny flowers and running faster,
Fairy tales, so ever after.

Happiness is in your hand,
As two sets of footprints in the sand,
Come, make me happy, take my hand!
------

This is my Swedish version:
------

Lyckan ligger i din hand,
Vacker som en sten funnen i sand,
Eller bubblor sända till Samarkand.

Lyckan klingar med barnens skratt,
Lyser i ögonen på min katt,
Eller ligger och lurar i en sagoskatt

Lyckan ligger i din hand
Som två par fotspår tryckt i sand
Kom, gör mig lycklig. Tag min hand!

------

G is for GNOMES - The Letter 'G' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Monday, April 8th, 2013

G is for GNOMES! For A to Z in April', Monday, April 8th, 2013.

Gnomes are these very small creatures/people who live as descretly as possible, but who help humans in need from time to time. Here is Elsa Beskow's rendition of what Swedish Forest Gnomes look like:
