S is for SILVER & SILVER CLAY - 'From A to Z in April', Monday, April 22nd, 2013

S is for SILVER and SILVER CLAY - The Letter 'S' for 'Blogging from A to Z in April', Monday, April 22nd, 2013.

Every jewellery maker uses some kind of silver, be it sterling or silver-plated findings, silver beads or charms.

There are artisans on Etsy, whose silver work or silver clay work has caught my eye. First is Esmeralda of SilverBlueberry, who makes nature-inspired jewellery with silver clay combined with other silver-smithing techniques. Here are a couple of birch leaves on a ring:

And here is Esmeralda's fern pattern on a ring and earrings:

And here is Esmeralda's adorable hedgehog on a ring!

And here is Esmeralda's bee comb pattern on a pendant and a ring:

Here is Esmeralda's lady's mantle leaf pendant:

Esmeralda has two versions of this leaf:

Erika Price of ErikaPrice has also made a silver clay leaf pendant of a geranium leaf:

There are still artisans who work with silver in a traditional manner. Cathy Busch and Doug Feakes of diggersgoldjewelry has made silver ginko leaf earrings by cutting and shaping each leaf from a sheet of sterling silver rather using silver metal clay:

There are also artisans on Etsy who make jewellery and art objects of found items such as old silver spoons. Here are spoon fish made by Neva Starr of nevastarr :

I would love to work more with silver and try silver clay too.

My theme for A to Z is my favourite things that might show up in written stories, poems, paintings or jewellery. This is my list of subjects that I would like to work with.

Best wishes,
Anna

My daughter would rather have silver jewellery than gold. Lovely pieces of jewellery you've showcased here.
