Only One Doll, Mrs. Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus Week 54

Jenny Matlock

"Two dolls!"
"No! I said only one." replied Sanna firmly. Clara could throw tantrums if she did not get her way. Sanna had promised one doll for Clara's birthday. It's easy to spoil a child who has had a brush with death. At one week old, Clara had open-heart-surgery. And all through it, Sanna sang for Clara. Seven years later, Clara was just like other children.
"Hush little baby, don't you cry..." sang Sanna.
She thought: "A hot temper is not a good way of winning arguments later in life. Thank Goodness, that there can be a 'later life' for Clara!"

Best wishes,
Anna

Anna,

This is so true to life! I try to remind myself that we cannot spoil a child with too much love. It's the "stuff" we give them that does.

Namaste..........cj

Mother's do tend to spoil a child that is on the brink of death. You can't help but want to give them the world. Very nice use of the prompt!~Ames

That's a powerful, emotion-packed story, Anna. I really like it. You fill these posts with so much humanness.

Oh yes this is good! Great way to work it out too....my Mother would have turned it all around and said no dolls now! I'm serious too!

This is so powerful and moving...always a hard choice about carrot and stick for a child who has undergone pain.

Outstanding job Anna ! It is so hard to balance when you are a parent, especially when a child was once very ill...you depicted a loving yet wise parent in action and someday, I'm sure the child will be grateful for it. ( Kind of reminds me of the book "Heidi" )
