Alphabe-Thursday - I is for ice and icicle

Jenny Matlock

This week, the letter for Mrs. Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday is "I".
My I-word is ice.

Ice is water that is so cold that it has solidified and become hard and fast. Icicles are pointed pieces of ice that hang from something, such as a roof.

Icicles are formed when the changes in temperature allow the ice to melt and refreeze before the water has completely dropped away.

Happy Alphabe-Thursday!

all our icicles have finally melted away and hopefully we won't be seeing any more for quite some time

Yes, Ann, I'm glad to hear that. Actually this photo was taken in February and all of the icicles in these pictures here are gone.
There are alot of interesting things to photograph outside right now, but yesterday, I did not have the strength or time to take the camera with me.
I am thinking about getting a cell-phone with a built in camera, efter seeing jams O donnell's PhotoHunt pics of the underground. But I can't afford it yet. I never have a camera with me when I go out. Big mistake. I miss a lot. I make such a big thing of taking a few pictures. It shouldn't be that way.
You are so sweet to stop by and comment!
Hugs
Anna

We're beyond ice now, but we had our share a few times on branches and limbs. We did not have impressive icicles like yours though. They look like weapons! Can you imagine standing underneath one when it fell, having it pierce you and lodge in your body, the only thing keeping you from bleeding out being the icicle itself? I saw that on Grey's Anatomy and felt the need to share because I'm thoughtful like that.

It's always so interesting to me when I see icicles outside. The different formations of them are sometimes so amazing. Some also seem like they could be so dangerous if they fall down in one piece. Good post.

I've always thought icicles are so pretty the way they hang down over the side of a buildig. It's too warm here and I only get to see them in pictures now.

Looks like we were thinking along the same lines today! :-) Glad those icicles are gone, although I find them fascinating.

I hope you still don't have icicles where you are! Ick!

PJ. Your comment cracked me up.

OK, I hadn't imagined that but now I will...

although the odds of being pierced by one are pretty slim here in the Valley of the Sunstroke!

Intriquing post.

And now gruesome!

A+

I dont get too many chances to see icicles and if i do see them, they are usually quite small. The ones you have pictured almost look lethal!

Wow, those are impressive! Boy, if that thing fell it would leave a mark. I'll admit, since you are a jeweler, I was expecting a different type of "ice"! Kathy

We had several ice storms this year and it is lovely but scary, especially when it causes tree limbs to break and fall!

"Cool" pictures - no really! I love the way the white ice is such a "sharp" (I'm not meaning to do this) contrast to warm red brick. Thank you for sharing this post.

I just read mbkatc230's comment and must admit that I too thought of a different kind of ice related to you. :)
